Highlight of the week was finding this first winter male Caspian Stonechat at Maypole on St Marys on saturday lunchtime at first it was identified as a Siberian Stonechat by myself and the many others who came to see it that afternoon but it was reindentified as a Caspian when images were looked at the next morning to reveal the diagnostic tail pattern ,this was only the second record for the Isles of Scilly and i am led to believe the fifth for britain ,happy days.

Almost forgot just before we saw the bluetail kerry and i saw the Barred Warbler at Carn Friers , it was very elusive but Kerry managed to get this great record shot

As promised the first instalment of the Sillies trip,what better way of starting than this fantastic Red Flanked Bluetail we had at Innesigen St Marys ,this a rare vagrant from north east europe and beyond.

Found this Cattle Egret and a Curlew Sandpiper on the Hayle estuary after work today ,the Cattle Egret was hunched up with the large gull flock but eventually flew in closer ,it was the first one i have ever seen on the estuary .

The day after i got back from the scillies i managed to catch up with the adult Franklins Gull on the Hayle estuary which has been in the area for the last few days,it was a pity the light was poor and the bird distant so only managed a couple of record shots.

Sorry for the lack of posts but i have been away on the Scillies for eight days ,so before i post my pics from there i had better catch up with whats happened in Cornwall.The day before i left an Isabelline Wheatear was found by my birding buddy Paul Freestone at Godrevy head ,this i believe is only the second ever record for Cornwall and the first twitchable one,here is a series of shots of this great find.

Short Toed Lark at St Agnes head today .a very showy bird.

Saw my second Bairds Sandpiper of the year at Davidstow airfield last saturday here is a sequence of shots of it feeding on a small pool by the edge of the main runway ,it also had a wash and preen right in front of me.
